Campbell's Cove Promenade

2019 NSW LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AWARD

TOURISM

CONTEXT

CIVE1.jpg

Campbell's Cove Promenade was originally entered in the Civic category, however the Jury felt this high quality designed public realm project provides a significant contribution to linking Sydney’s ‘Cultural Ribbon’ along the harbour and within the UNESCO World Heritage curtilage.

For this reason, the project is worthy of commendation for its impact on tourism. The sculptural promenade responds directly to the waterfront and the setting of The Rocks, as well as the internationally recognised landmarks of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Further, the promenade successfully supports and enhances the flexible program required of this space by the City including New Year’s Eve, Vivid Sydney, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the Overseas Passenger Terminal. The project team were clearly able to demonstrate leadership and their contribution to technological innovations that have enabled the context of the site to be celebrated through the design.
