Brisbane Airport sits on a 2,700 hectare site, which is the landscape setting through which 22 million passengers pass each year. The Brisbane Airport Strategy Manual provides comprehensive guidance for this landscape setting.
The Manual is commended for its breadth, vision and rigour. As part of a broader suite of strategies and planning documents, it ensures that landscape is recognised and embedded as an important contributor to the success of the Airport. The landscape architects have provided a site-specific design strategy for a manageable and cohesive landscape environment, underpinned by detailed research and analysis.
The strategy defines - for the first time - an overarching ambition for the airport’s landscape. This is supported by three over-arching goals, and then six new Thematic Landscape Areas are mapped and defined. Finally, a detailed plant material guide for each Thematic Area has been developed.
The Brisbane Airport Strategy Manual embeds landscape, visual, hydraulic, ecological, horticultural, operational and maintenance criteria, ensuring all parts of the public realm are connected, safe and memorable experiences for all who work, visit and experience the airport.
